There have been a few times we’ve talked about Trojans on this blog, but … Do you know what they are, and how you can protect yourself from them? Do you know the evolution of Trojans?
What is a Trojan?
A Trojan is a type of virus whose effects can be very dangerous. They can destroy files or data on the hard disk. In addition, they are able to capture and forward confidential information to an external address or open communication ports, allowing an intruder to control the computer remotely.
They can also capture all the text entered using the keyboard, or record passwords entered by the user. Therefore, they are used by cybercriminals to steal banking details.
Evolution of Computer Trojans
Trojans were conceived as a tool to inflict maximum damage on the infected computer. They tried to reformat the computer or delete files from the system but didn’t have much impact because, in the era in which the creators of malware sought notoriety, the Trojans are not propagated by themselves. An example of this type of Trojan horse is the Autorooter.
In recent years, thanks to the popularization of Internet it has since changed the trend. Cybercriminals have seen in them the perfect tool to steal bank details, usernames and passwords, personal information, etc… That is, they have led to the creation of a new category of malware: banking Trojans and Spyware.
How Can We Protect Ourselves from Trojans?
- Avoid downloading content from unknown or disreputable pages
- Monitor downloads from P2P applications
- Keep an updated antivirus. If you don’t have an antivirus, you should install any security solution from Panda Security, and you will be protected from these threats
- Do a free scan of your computer, and check if it is Trojan free
